Philodendron hederaceum | 'Silver Stripe'
An elegant variety of the popular heartleaf Philodendron, distinguished by its heart-shaped leaves adorned with fine, irregular silver stripes on a velvety dark green background. Each leaf features a unique pattern, creating a subtle and refined marbled effect. A climbing or trailing plant, it is versatile and easy to care for, perfect for beginners and collectors alike. 🩶
Care:
- Light: Bright, indirect light to preserve the beautiful silver variegation. Also tolerates medium light, but the stripes will be less pronounced. Avoid direct sun.
- Watering: Allow the topsoil (about 2-3 cm) to dry out between waterings. Quite tolerant, but avoid overwatering which can cause root rot.
- Humidity: Adapts well to normal indoor humidity, but appreciates a bit more humidity if possible for optimal growth.
- Temperature: Between 18°C and 27°C. Avoid cold drafts.
- Soil: Light and well-draining potting mix, rich in organic matter (an aroid mix is perfect).
- Fertilization: Balanced fertilizer in spring and summer, about once a month.
- Support: Can climb a moss pole for larger leaves, or trail in a hanging basket or on a shelf.
- Repotting: As needed, generally annually, when roots become crowded.
- Pruning: Pinch off the tips to encourage bushy, compact growth.
- Toxicity: Toxic to humans and animals if ingested — keep away from children and pets.
