Salix integra | 'Hakuro Nishiki' *Perennial*

Salix integra | 'Hakuro Nishiki' *Perennial*

The Salix integra ‘Hakuro Nishiki’, also known as dappled willow or shrimp willow, is an ornamental shrub prized for its beautiful variegated foliage. Young shoots emerge in stunning shades of soft pink, then evolve into a mix of green and creamy white. Its light foliage and rapid growth make it a real favorite, both in pots and in the garden. Indoor Care (temporarily) Light: Very bright location with a few hours of direct sun. Watering: Keep the potting mix consistently slightly moist; do not let it dry out completely. Temperature: Prefers a cool environment, between 10 and 20°C (50-68°F). Humidity: Tolerates ambient air, but appreciates a well-ventilated environment. Fertilizer: Every 2 to 4 weeks in spring and summer. Pruning: Prune regularly to maintain a compact shape and encourage new pink shoots. Repotting: As needed, in rich, well-draining potting mix. Note: Salix 'Hakuro Nishiki' is not a true houseplant. It can be kept indoors for a few weeks, but it thrives much better outdoors. Outdoor Care Light: Full sun to partial shade; sun promotes the best colors. Watering: Water regularly, especially in hot weather; the soil should remain cool. Temperature: Very hardy, tolerates Quebec winters. Soil: Rich, moist, and well-drained. Fertilizer: In spring with a tree and shrub fertilizer. Pruning: Prune in early spring or after the first flush of growth to stimulate the appearance of new pink leaves. A bright and spectacular shrub that changes color with the seasons and adds a touch of softness to the garden, patio, or balcony.
